Chayim

Chayim is an example of storytelling based on old family photographs. The work features the oldest photographs in the artist’s family which were discovered only a few years’ ago after the passing of her mother. Chayim refers to life or “to live.” The text is embedded at the back of the three panels, written in red ink. It tells the story of how she, as a granddaughter, attempts to trace the cycle of her deceased Bobie’s life. Archival elements such as her grandmother’s dress gloves and a costume necklace tell a story themselves.
